Microsoft Office 2013 New Features

1. Optimized for touch

Microsoft Office 2013 features touch mode in order to make it a bit more finger-friendly for users. Users can view presentations and read documents by just swiping their finger on the screen or by touching & zooming, thanks to touch mode. This feature can be activated by hitting the small arrow located on the upper-left corner of the screen. The icon appears like a circle with a dotted line, after activating the option. The space among the on-screen objects also get extended and the chances of taping the incorrect icon decreases.

2. Inkling

Inkling allows the users to take notes, write on the screen, create document and access each and every feature with the help of a stylus. Handwritten notes can be converted into text automatically. The stylus can be also used like a laser pointer at the time of presentation. You can simply color the content and delete the mistakes.

3. Read Mode

Another cool feature is Read Mode, which makes it easy to read word-processing documents on a tablet or e-reader by adjusting the screens automatically. This feature reflow the text in columns and makes the document to appear as if a book page. Users can also “zoom in” and “zoom out” the content, see revision marks, watch videos within documents and use touch to turn pages. Users can share document with others on Facebook.

4. Edit PDF content

Users can not only view PDF in Word but also edit them just like a Word document. The edited files can be either save as another PDF file or save it as such. The paragraphs, tables, lists and other content of PDF files work similar to Word content when opened in Word. Users cannot edit the PDF files which include text that was created as an image.

5. SkyDrive

Office 2013 saves your each and every document in the cloud on SkyDrive by default. Users can also sync their files by signing into their Microsoft account and get all their applications, presentations, custom dictionary, recent documents and spreadsheets from tablet, PC or phone. Users can send a link of the same file to everybody along with viewing and editing permissions, so that they can view the latest version of the file. When the users reconnect, their documents are accessible both – offline and sync.

6. Skype and Yammer

Office 2013 sports Skype (the video chatting service) for VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) communication and Yammer (a social network for businesses) for social networking. Every month, users will get 60 minutes of Skype world minutes when they sign up for a subscription to Office. Yammer provides free social networking features when united with SharePoint.

7. People Card

The default view for contacts, People Card combines information and reduces the duplicate entries. It features all the information regarding your connections along with status updates, profile picturescontact information and activity feeds (directly from Facebook and LinkedIn accounts). So, users get an integrated view of their contacts anywhere in the Office.

8. SharePoint

SharePoint feature allows users to stay connected and productive by offering trouble-free access to people, sites, teams, documents and information that required to make up to date decisions and to get work done.

9. Live Layout and Video Addition

Users can add video in the document directly from Bing Video, YouTube or any other sites. They just need HTML embed code. After adding the video, they can resize and adjust it. Users are also able to choose the layout.

10. Bing Maps

Microsoft Office 2013 includes “Bing Maps,” which is similar to Apple and Google maps.
